Save for a rainy day

Life is full of surprises; be ready by saving for an emergency.

To cope with unexpected expenses such as house or car repairs, set aside some money. It’s okay to start small. Save just a little each week. Over time, aim to build up enough to cover 3 - 6 months of essential expenses, including housing, food, transport and childcare.

What should you know?

Treat it like a bill.

Fund your emergency savings account regularly – as often as you pay bills.

Keep it separate.

Keep it in a separate account that’s easy to access – such as a savings account.

Set it aside.

Use this account only for true emergencies, like critical home / car repairs, or to help if you need to take time away from work.
